With more than 40 years of waveski design experience, Macski gives a breakdown on the design process of a hand shaped, custom engineered waveski. Macski prides themselves in designing and hand crafting waveski from the absolute beginner to the expert. Macski has more than 15 World Titles under their belt.
Design & Engineering
Designing and engineering a waveski, the following is taken into consideration: Height, weight, ability/disability, age, type of surfing, size of wave, type of surf. After these have been established, the waveski is hand shaped, using tried, tested and approved templates to engineer a waveski that maximizes speed, power, maneuverability, stability and buoyance. Waveski riders are classified in the following categories; Beginner, intermediate, advanced and expert. Each classification requires a unique criterion. For beginners, stability and buoyancy are the major factors considered whereas speed and power are motivating factors for the advanced waveskiiers.
Beginner
A stable and buoyant board with good maneuverability. Usually wide to create stability with chunky rails to create buoyancy and generally not fast. These boards are suitable for the recreational surfers that would get into the surf 3 to 5 times a year or the vacation surfer.
Intermediate
This board will have better maneuverability with an increase in speed but will have a slight decrease in stability and buoyancy. These boards are suitable for the weekend surfer.
Advanced
The focus of this board is the balance between speed and maneuverability. These boards are generally unstable as they are narrow with hard low volume rails. These boards are suitable for the serious surfer that considers waveski surfing a sport.
Expert
Power is added to the advanced board with even less volume. This board is suited for the professional or semi- professional riders.
